Carly Rae Baron

October 17, 1997 – November 1, 2020

About Carly Rae Baron

Carly Rae Baron was born on October 17th, 1997 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was a 2016 graduate of Eugene Ashley High School in Wilmington, North Carolina. She graduated from Cape Fear Community College and was a student at UNC Wilmington at the time of her passing in 2020. Carly was a loving daughter, adoring sister, and compassionate friend. She was an aspiring model and an avid basketball player, with a love of and respect for life. Her laughter was contagious, and the room lit up when Carly arrived. If you were lucky enough to have known Carly, you would have known how much she loved her family and friends.

Carly Rae Baron tragically lost her life to gun violence in 2020. Since Carly's passing, the Wilmington community has not been the same. Each day becomes darker, and the number of violent gun crimes continues to rise. At Remember Carly Rae, we aim to raise awareness of the need to end gun violence in our community.

"Goodbyes are not forever, goodbyes are not the end, they simply mean, we’ll miss you until we meet again."

UNCW Memorial Garden

At the time of her passing, Carly was enrolled at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. UNCW has a memorial garden in the heart of its campus, devoted to honoring UNCW students, faculty, and staff who have passed throughout the years. To commemorate them, UNCW dedicates a brick in their honor, forever giving them a special place on UNCW's campus. This garden provides a place for family, friends, students, and faculty to visit and honor the lives of those who have left us too soon. Carly does have a brick dedicated in her honor and memory in this garden, which is pictured below:

Homicide Family Support Group

There is a Homicide Family Support Group that meets once a month for citizens of the Wilmington community who are suffering the tragic loss of their loved ones to violent crimes. This group provides our citizens and community a safe space to grieve, mourn, and navigate through the tragic loss they are experiencing. This group also helps families through any possible trials that may follow their devastating loss. Every year, this support group and their families come together for a memorial service honoring their loved ones who have passed, while calling a need for peace within our community.
